Lucknow was a major enamelling centre in the 18th and 19th century, and produced wares such as this huqqa base decorated in characteristic blue and green translucent champleve enamel. The piece was bought by the South Kensington Museum from the Colonial and Indian Exhibition, London, in 1886.

Bell-shaped huqqa base, silver, enamelled in blue and green translucent enamel. Lucknow, c. 1800
Physical description
Silver bell-shaped huqqa base engraved with flowering plants contained within six oval cartouches and flower-heads within horizontal borders, all enamelled in translucent blue and green champleve enamel. Traces of original gilding.
