This relief is one of a group of related reliefs showing the Virgin worshipping the Christ Child on her lap. Another version of the same composition in painted stucco is in the sacristy of the cathedral at Salò on Lake Garda, which includes a third angel at the apex where the present relief has been restored. This terracotta relief in made in North Italy (Lombardy) in about 1420-1430.
