Brief description
Buff earthenware covered with a thin tin glaze and painted in copper green and manganese brown. Possibly Florence, Italy, late 14th or early 15th century.
Physical description
Cup, tin-glazed earthenware, with a cylindrical body and a small foot and a loop handle. The cup has been restored and it would have had another loop handle. Buff earthenware painted with an image of the Agnus Dei in the bowl in green and brown.

Object history
Bought from Sig. Giuseppe Salvadori, Via dei Fossi 9, Florence
nos 1229 to 1284-1901 bought for £ 21.6.4d.
Said to have been dug up in Florence.
At time of acquisition was thought to be 14th century. Subsequent dating was about 1400 and then late 14th to early 15th century.
Historical context
A two-handled cup of the same shape with a somewhat similar rendering of the Agnus Dei was found at Orvieto and is pictured in Bode, Anfänge, p.2.
Other, similarly painted, two handled small bowls have been found in Orvieto (La ceramica orvietano).
