'American and European Art and Design 1800-1900' This jug was purchased from the Paris 1867 Exhibition; it was described as in the 'old German style', although the heads are kings of Poland from 550 to 1614. Headed by Lobmeyr, the many Austrian and Bohemian glassworks produced a vast range of rummers, goblets, covered jars, drinking horns, and so on, some based on traditional useful wares, others, like this jug, in an approximation of Gothic or early Renaissance styles. They were usually painted in enamels with heraldry.(1987-2006)
