This bronze medal was struck to commemorate the centenary of Jean Jacques Rousseau's death (1712-1778). On the obverse side Rousseau is shown in profile while on the reverse there are the letters 'IHS' surrounded by flames and the inscription 'Centenaire de J J Rousseau'.
