A presentation stand in two parts made from repousse gold.

STAND FOR REGALIA Gold Bangkok, Thailand Early 19th century IM 55-1937 This form of raised stand is based on the offering dishes used to present gifts to monks. Here however the type was utilised to hold items of regalia such as crowns or hats for royalty. In Thailand a warm red coloured finish to gold was much admired. This was achieved by boiling the finished piece in tamarind juice. (1/10/2008)
