St. John the Baptist as a Young Man

Bust
last quarter of 15th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This bust showing St John the Baptist as a young man, is made in the style of Andrea del Verrocchio in Italy in the last quarter of the 15th century.

There is no definite reason to regard this bust as a San Giovanni, though it might have been so intended. The style of the bust is Verrocchiesque, but the quality is far below that of autograph works by Verrocchio and it is likely that we have it here to do with works of a minor sculptor influenced by Verrocchio rather than with a product of Verrocchio's shop.
