The photograph resulted from a commission by New Society magazine
Bibliographic reference
The photograph was published on the cover of New Society on 26.2.1976, cropped just to show the boys and not the racist graffiti behind. It accompanied an article on 'The happiness of Indian children' by Martin Herbert and A.M.Kallarckal pp.422 to 424. The subtitle read 'Immigrant Indian children in Leicester are less malajusted than their English counterparts. Why is this? A new study points to the importance of the family.'
