cup and cover, silver-gilt, London, Thomas Heming, 1773-1774
Physical description
Two handled cup standing on a spreading foot with waisted stem and a calyx of laurel leaves below the bowl, the lower part of the bowl chased with fluting, above this, two oval medallions depicting groups of putti in scenes emblematic of love, with drapery swags between. The cover is of ogival form, with a a band of guilloche ornament around the border and chased with palmettes and foliage within, the fluted, waisted central section terminates in a bud finial above a calyx of laurel.

The medallions in the body are probably cast from glass reproductions of ancient gems, produced by James Tassie (Schroder, 1988, p. 316)
