Sir Arthur Gilbert and his wife Rosalinde formed one of the world's great decorative art collections, including silver, mosaics, enamelled portrait miniatures and gold boxes. Arthur Gilbert donated his extraordinary collection to Britain in 1996.

Physical description

Rectangular glass micromosaic depicting eleven figures in an elaborate room. King Solomon wearing a purple robe and gold chain is seated on a gold throne, extending his left hand. To his left and right are robed men and soldiers. Behind them is an arched portico open to the sky. In the central foreground a man with a sword appears to strike the infant. A woman kneels before him and on his right are two more female figures.
