This bronze medal depicts a triumphal car filled with trophies conducted by Victory. The inscription in the exergue reads 'Battle of Vimiera, Aug. XXI. MDCCCVIII.' On the reverse side there is a view of part of Lisbon with shipping in the Tagus and the inscription in the exergue reads 'The English army enters Lisbon. Sep XI, MDCCCVIII.'

This medal is the thirteenth in James Mudie's series of forty 'National Medals' struck in 1820 to commemorate British victories in George III's reign. They commemorate the events of the Napoleonic period, from a British perspective.

The medals were sold individually or in sets contained within a leather bound case in the form of a book.

Physical description

Medal, (Mudie's Series, No. 13) bronze. Obv., a triumphal car filled with trophies conducted by Victory. In the exergue, 'Battle of Vimiera, Aug. XXI. MDCCCVIII.(1801)' Rev., view of part of Lisbon with shipping in the Tagus. In the exergue, 'The English army enters Lisbon Sep. XI, MDCCCVIII.' Signed 'Mudie d., 'Barre f.'
