This bronze medal depicts 'Adm. Viscount Duncan' in profile. On the reverse side Lord Duncan is shown receiving Admiral De Winter's sword after the victory off Camperdown, with the legend 'Dutch fleet defeated, 9 ships of the line captured, 11 Oct, 1797.'

This medal is the fifth in James Mudie's series of forty 'National Medals' struck in 1820 to commemorate British victories in George III's reign. They commemorate the events of the Napoleonic period, from a British perspective.

The medals were sold individually or in sets contained within a leather bound case in the form of a book.

Physical description

Medal, (Mudie's Series, No. 5), bronze. Obv., profile bust of 'Adm. Visc. Duncan.' Rev., Lord Duncan receiving Admiral De Winter's sword after the Victory off Camperdown, with legend 'Dutch fleet defeated. 9 ships of the line captured, 11 Oct. 1797.'
