Physical description
A George IV silver and gem-set seal cup; with a tapering square body on a shaped square base, the sides set with medallions enclosing on one side a medal of George IV signed Benedetto Pistrucci above armorials, on the other side a medal of William of Nassau, King of Belgium and Luxembourg signed by Auguste-Francois Michaut. The other two sides set with armorials of George IV. Marked near rim, the base stamped with retailer's mark FISHER, BRAITHWAITE, & JONES, FECt, LONDON.

Object history
Sometime between the Sotheby's sale in 1966, and the Christie's sale in 1998, the cup was separated from its original cover.

Provenance: Richard le Poer Trench, 2nd Earl Clancarty, then by descent, 1824. Sotheby's, lot 80, 18/12/1966. Kaye, 1966. Christie's New York, lot 163 (through S. J. Phillips), 21/04/1998.
