Picture of Flowers 1860 Floral still lifes against a black background were a common subject for micromosaics in the late 19th century, and offered an opportunity to show the brilliant colours of the glass tesserae. Here peonies, roses and lilies are depicted with other flowers in what appears to be a typically Victorian composition. While the flowers have been rendered in micromosaic, the black background is made of marble. Rome, Italy Micromosaic and marble Museum no. Loan:Gilbert.1067-2008(17/03/2021)
