Place Of Origin

This candlestick was probably originally part of a toilet service, which included a mirror, a pair of candlesticks, one or two large caskets and a selection of smaller boxes. The candlesticks would have provided light for a lady as she prepared herself at her dresser.

Sir Arthur Gilbert and his wife Rosalinde formed one of the world's great decorative art collections, including silver, mosaics, enamelled portrait miniatures and gold boxes. Arthur Gilbert donated his extraordinary collection to Britain in 1996.
