Snuffbox

ca. 1780 (made), ca. 1780 (painted)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The subject of the enamels suggests that the box was intended to celebrate a military triumph. The artist who has signed the enamel plaque on the base 'Moser' has not been identified. The plaque on the top of the box is a replacement and is not by Moser.

Sir Arthur Gilbert and his wife Rosalinde formed one of the world’s great decorative art collections, including silver, mosaics, enamelled portrait miniatures and gold boxes. Arthur Gilbert donated his extraordinary collection to Britain in 1996.
