Object history
This ladle is one of a pair that originally accompanied a pair of bowls presented in 1814 to the corporation of Dover in memory of Peter Fector...The present whereabouts of the bowls and the other ladle are not known. The bowl of the ladle is cast from a real clam shell (Hippopus hippopus). It is an example of naturalism unusual for the period and contrasts with the more typical stylised foliage-and-bud decoration of the handle. (Schroder, 1988, p. 410)

Provenance: Corporation of Dover, Kent. Lillian and Morrie A. Moss.
