Object history
Depicting the costume of a sage. The figure bearing the stamped name 'SAMSING' is rather idiosyncratic in this context. The size of the sheet and the use of a romanticised name stamp both point to its once forming part of the stock of a workshop geared to production for foreigners, but the subject of a figure in the dress of the pre-Qing period is uncommon.
