Historical context | The album is roughly divisible into 6 parts [SD.184:1-6]. SD.184:6 consists of a manuscript, and drawings copied and traced from Baron Dominique Vivant Denon, Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Egypte, 1802, and a ground plan, presumably after Denon. The drawings correspond to Pls XI, XII, XXXVI and LI of Planches du Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Egypte. For specific correspondence of text and drawings to an 1803 English edition of Denon's publication, see Searight Archive. Regarding transcripts, tracings and copies, the compiler of the album may have used alternative editions of the publications mentioned. For attribution of the album to Sir Robert Ker Porter, see Searight Archive. |
