Historical context | The album is roughly divisible into 6 parts [SD.184:1-6]. The drawings in SD.184:3 are copied from Le Bruyn, Travels into Muscovy, Persia, and Part of the East Indies, 2 vols, 1737, Vol.II, Pls 118, 121, 128, 153, 163, and facing p.23, and from Ker Porter, Travels in Georgia, Persia, Armenia, Ancient Babylonia, &c. &c. During the Years 1817, 1818, 1819, and 1820, 2 vols, 1821-2, Vol.1, Pls 12-14, 16, 17, 29-43, 45-54, and Vol. 2, Pl. 50. Map of Persia and the Persian Gulf. Regarding transcripts, tracings and copies, the compiler of the album may have used alternative editions of the publications mentioned.
