Table Mat

ca. 1935 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Table mats were not found in a traditional Chinese household before 1900. Although this table mat would have been used in a western-style setting, the decorative pattern on the mat is a Chinese one. The consumer would have been either a Chinese eager to adopt a western life style, or a Westerner living in China at that time.
