1800-1900 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This toggle is carved in the shape of jujubes, sometimes called Chinese dates, which carry the hidden meaning 'may you soon give birth to sons'. It was probably used on a drawstring that secured a woman's purse, or it may have been hung from a rigid fan to act as a counterbalance.
