Carpet fragment of hand knotted wool and cotton.

WARP: dark brown wool. Z3S; 14 threads per inch (54 per dm).

WEFT: white wool and 2 white cotton; Z3S; 2 shoots occasionally 3 or 4 after each row of knots; 13 knots per inch (51 per dm).

PILE: wool; 7 colours: red, yellow, dark green, dark blue, blue, light purple, (faded), dark brown/black, symmetrical knot tied arouond 2 threads; 91 knots per sq. inch (1377 per sq. dm).

SIDE FINISH: 2 cords overcast with white cotton and wool as weft.

END FINISH; cut

DESIGN: NB: some areas have been patched from another carpet. There are six vertical stripes: from the selvedge they are:

1. dark brown ground with single yellow knots

2. reciprocal red/dark green diamond heads

3. blue ground with coloured stars

4. white ground with coloured stars

5. dark green ground with coloured stars

6. dark blue ground with hooked crosses containing a star.
