This round bronze medal depicts William Augustus, the Duke of Cumberland in profile. Below the bust, the inscription reads 'Natus 15 Apr. 1721'. On the reverse side a warrior is depicted chasing a hydra with the legend 'Pro patre et patria' 'For King and Country'. In the exergue, the inscription reads 'Reb. ex. Ang. pul. et Carl. redactum, Dec 1745.'
Cumberland, the younger son of George II, is notorious for his role in putting down the Jacobite Rebellion at the Battle of Culloden in 1746.
