Brief description
Painting, design for a turban aigrette, opaque watercolour and gold on paper, Jaipur, 1797
Physical description
Painting, in opaque watercolour and gold on paper, this elaborate, but extremely delicate design for a turban jewel was probably intended to be set with emeralds, as indicated by the green colouring, and it is possible that the uncoloured areas were to be set with diamonds. The aigrette has an integral turban band. The central section has 3 flower designs, with a fourth above it, all of which rise three coursing stems with heart-shaped connecting elements. The band has tear-drop connecting elements with circles and leaf motifs on either side. Green pendant stones extend along the entire lower edge, and from the three curving stems, and from the upper flower. The design is outlined in gold and coloured only in green.
