This bronze medal depicts Sir Sydney Smith, a British naval officer involved in the defending the Ottoman city of Acre against Napoleon. The unsuccessful French siege of Acre was the turning point of Napoleon's invasion of Egypt and Syria. Smith is shown in profile, with the inscription 'Repulsed Buonaparte in 11 attacks made by him on Acre 1799.'
