This poster reflects the mystical and psychedelic style that had began to permeate the Beatles music and lyrics by the middle of the 1960s. The influence of travelling through India and practice of transcendental meditation changed not only their music, but their outlook and artwork.
The poster was illustrated by Alan Aldridge, who is also famous for his book of surreal images depicting the song lyrics of the Beatles. His graphic design signature of rounded cartoon style imagery with soft airbrushed colour inspired the graphic design style of the era.

About 1969
This highly stylised poster represents another aspect of the promotional machine: the use of stars to sell magazines and other publications. It is a pull-out from a magazine and, unlike the other posters shown here, is meant to be displayed in the home. The attraction for fans lies in the novelty of the poster and the challenge to their knowledge. [6o words]
