This elegant sash (patka) is for a man to wear around the waist of a long, gathered robe. The long floral sprays are meant to be displayed hanging down at the side of the robe. The design is made by the mordanting and dyeing techniques associated with South-East India, and may have been made for one of the Deccani courts.

Physical description | Sash (patka) of stencilled, hand-painted, undyed and dyed cotton. With end borders each with five long floral sprays in dyed red, blue and blue-green. Four narrow horizontal borders with floral meander patterns separating the end borders from the field. There is an East India Company stamp at one end. |
