| Historical context | SD.1324-SD.1326 are apparently pages from the same sketchbook. Possibly they are preliminary sketches connected with L. A. Berbrugger, Algérie historique,...pittoresque et monumentale, ou recueil de vues...et portraits..., Paris, 1843, which contained lithographs after artists such as H. F. E. Philippoteaux, E. Flandin and D. Raffet, amongst others. |
