Historical context
SD.1263-SD.1270 may be copies of, or derived from, Canning's anonymous Greek artist (see SD.1261 & SD.1262). There may also be a connection with John Cam Hobhouse and Lord Byron who toured Greece and Turkey together, 1809-10: see J. C. Hobhouse, A Journey through Albania...to Constantinople... 1809 and 1810, 1813, For former suggested attributions see Searight Archive, under `English School'. See also SD.1065 & SD.1066 by Mrs W. Turner .
SD.1263-1265 appear to be by the same hand, and possibly also SD.1266-1268. The artist may have been an English visitor to Constantinople. For a copy or version of this, see SD.1065. The palace was destroyed in the early C19th and rebuilt c.1853.
