Historical context
A sketch [one of a set of seven, SD.1243:1-7], for an illustration in Revd Michael Russell, View of Ancient And Modern Egypt; with an outline of its natural history, Edinburgh, 1831, facing p.116. SD.1243:1-7 are copied and adapted from plates in the Description de l'Égypte, ou recueil des observations et des recherches qui ont été faites en Égypte pendant l'expédition de l'armée française, ed. E. F. Jomard, 20 vols, Paris, 1809-22. The titles given here are those of the engravings in Russell's book. The title page of this book credits the engravings to Branston. SD.1243:3 is adapted from Description, Antiquités, Vol.V, Pl.8.
