Design for an evening dress with elaborate embroidery round the bottom. Compared to earlier Paquin creations, this design shows a straighter and slimmer silhouette. The new high-waisted and shorter-skirted designs introduced by Paul Poiret were a main cause for this change. During their life time Poiret and Paquin remained fierce competitors. This dress was probably inspired by the vibrant costumes of the fashionable Ballets Russes.
The pencil inscription 'Bruxelles' is found in the top right hand corner of the design, it could refer to the name of the collection for which this dress was designed.
