Historical context
This is one of three illustrations [SD1213-SD.1215] for or after W. R. Wilson, Travels in Egypt and the Holy Land, 2nd. edn., With A Journey through Turkey, Greece, the Ionian Isles, Sicily, Spain, [...], 1824, frontispiece. According to the lettering, the plates in the book were drawn by A. P. Harrison after sketches by W. R. Wilson. It is difficult to ascertain whether SD.1213-SD.1215 are the original sketches, the worked up versions for engraving, or copies after the engravings. The drawings are inscribed and laid down in a similar way to SD.758, after W. Page.
