Historical context | SD.1193 & SD.1194 are consistent with a group of drawings by West of similar quality, style and subject matter, now in the Bristol City Art Gallery, which would have had their origin in the evening sketching parties held regularly by a group of Bristol artists including West. See City Art Gallery, Bristol, The Bristol School of Artists. Francis Danby and Painting in Bristol 1810-1840, 1973, pp.11, 21, 193, 195 & no.240. |
