Willie Rodger (1930-2018) was one of Scotland’s pre-eminent printmakers. He was born in Kirkintilloch and studied Graphics and Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art from 1948 – 1953. He worked for a period in commercial advertising in London before returning to Scotland to teach art. He was elected to the Royal Scottish Academy in 1989. He worked mostly in lino-cut and woodcut, but also produced a number of screenprints, notably for the images which were reproduced on a set of Scottish Historical Playing Cards, issued in 1975
