Bangle

1935-45 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The bangle appears to be sliced open to reveal a core of rubies standing out from a field of pavé-set diamonds. The use of gold in the 1930s was partly fashion and partly a response to the need to diversify production following the Wall Street Crash of 1929. Chaumet cut its Paris workshop staff from 80 to 15, but it won through to supply three parures to Princesse Alice de Bourbon de Parme on her marriage in 1936.
