Inscribed with title and the features finished from memory after one sitting at Lodianah in 1835 and Shah Shuja and number 31, and on a separate label Elder brother of Dost Mahomed whom we placed on the throne of Cabul dethroning Dost Mahomed.

Historical context
Drawn by the artist at Lodiana (Ludhiana), in the Punjab, while the Shah was in exile and under the protection of Ranjit Singh: see Vigne, A Personal Narrative of a Visit to Ghuzni, Kabul, And Afghanistan ..., 1840, pp.7-9 & 353-4. Installed by the British as Amir of Kabul, in place of Dost Muhammad Khan, 1840. Of the Sirdozye family, and not the brother of Dost Muhammad, who was a Barukzye.
