The case has carved floral patterns across it and is tipped with silver at either end.

Carved ebony furniture and decorative articles were made initially along the Coromandel Coast and were carrried to Sri Lanka and the Dutch East India where they were copied extensively. While manuufactured principally under Dutch patronage, in Britain objects of this type have been called 'Indo-Portuguese' largely since chairs of related workmanship were brought to England by Catherine of Braganza, the Portuguese wife of Charles II.(Nehru Gallery, 2001)
