WARP: white and dark brown wool, sometimes plied together; Z3S; 11 threads per inch (44 per dm).
WEFT: light brown wool; Z2S; 1-3 shoots after each row of knots; 12 knots per inch (46 per dm).
PILE: wool; 8 colours: red, yellow, green, blue, light blue, brown, black, white; symmetrical knot tied around two threads; 66 knots per sq. inch (1012 per sq. dm).
SIDE FINISH: 2 cords overcast with cream wool.
END FINISH: Lower: very irregular. 2.5 cms. max. plainweave with cream wool and then 3 rows of knots followed by a fringe of warp threads. Max length 5 cms. Upper: as Lower.
DESIGN: Field: very narrow field with blue ground. There is one row of a lattice design in yellow, toothed in red. Inside each frame is either a stylised floral sprig or a decorated diamond. Along both sides are birds, small animals and geometric motifs.
Borders from the inside:
(1) reciprocal diamond heads in red and green outlined in white
(2) brown ground with four-petalled rosettes
(3) white ground with leaf and wine glass pattern
(4) as (2)
(5) reciprocal pattern in red and white.
NB: the guard between (1) and (2) begins in one pattern and changes to another after 10 cms.
