This draped female figure of white wax is possibly made by François Duquesnoy (b. 1594; d. 1643) in the first half of the 17th century. It is Italo-Flemish.

The figure is regarded as a study by Duquesnoy for the figure of St. Susanna in Santa Maria di Loreto, Rome.

Purchased in Florence from the Gherardini Collection.

Physical description

The figure is clothed in flowing drapery drawn up on her left shoulder; her right knee is bent and her right hand rests below her breast. The head is broken and repaired across the neck and the left hand is missing. On a base of wood and lead.
