Historical context
The image is a simplified, reduced version of Pl.102 in Le Hay, Recueil de Cent Estampes (with plates after Vanmour). For comparisons with plates in other publications, including B. Picart, Cérémonies et Coutumes Religieuses de tous les Peuples du Monde, 8 tom., Amsterdam, 1723-43, see Searight Archive. It has been suggested that SD.1079 may be by Bernard Picart.
