Carpet fragment with a cotton warp and woollen weft. Knotted, with a large-scale pattern. Woven on a dark blue ground with the pattern in green, pink and orange.

WARP: white cotton; Z4S; depressed; 32 threads to the inch (126 per dm).

WEFT: red and light brown wool (blue-green wool of 6 Z spun threads, arrangement is difficult to ascertain, inserted after every 12 to 13 approx. red shoots and appear to be inserted alone); red wool is S spun, unplied, light brown; 3 shoots (light brown, red, light brown) after each row of knots; 16 knots to the inch (62 per dm).

PILE: wool; 13 colours: red, light red, orange, yellow, dark green, green, dark blue, blue, light blue, purple, light purple, cream, white; asymmetrical knot open to the left; 256 knots to the sq. inch (2906 per sq. dm).

SIDE FINISH: both sides are cut.

END FINISH: both ends are cut.

DESIGN: field: dark blue ground with half a large, green petalled flower against a left-hand border, with smaller flowers, leaves and stem tracery.

Inner guard stripe: a red and white reciprocal V-pattern.
