WARP: yellow silk; Z2S; 33 threads to the inch (112 per dm counted at 66 per 5 cms)
WEFT: white wool; Z spun, unplied; 2 parallel threads per shoot and 3 shoots after each row of knots; 17 knots to the inch (65 per dm counted at 26 per 4 cms).
PILE: wool; 8 original colours (plus 3 in reknotting): red, dark yellow, yellow, green, dark blue, pink, black, white (plus yellow, pink and light pink), asymmetrical knot, open to the right and tied around 2 warp threads; 281 knots to the sq. inch (3640 per sq. dm).
SIDE FINISH: both sides are cut.
END FINISH: both ends are cut.
DESIGN: field: red ground with lion attacking buffalo. NB: it is probably that the buffalo was originally knotted in black pile, later decayed. A new white cotton warp was then inserted and the area filled with tapestry weave in light brown wool.
