Saddle cover fragment of wool.

WARP: cream wool; Z2S; depressed; 34 threads to the inch (116 per dm).

WEFT: red wool; Z spun; unplied; 2 parallel threads per shoot, 2 shoots after each row of knots; 12 knots to the inch (49 per dm).

PILE: wool; 9 colours: dark red, red, yellow, dark green, green, dark blue, light blue, black, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 204 knots to the sq. inch (2842 per sq. dm).

SIDE FINISH: both sides have one cord oversewn with red wool.

END FINISH: both ends are cut. There is evidence on left-hand side slope and above top centre of plain weave in red weft.

DESIGN: field: dark blue ground with central, stylised flowered sprig, rows of small red stars and surrounding line of small botehs. The field includes a red ground panel at each end also containing stylised floral sprig and light blue stars.

Innermost border has reciprocal horned triangles in red and dark blue reduced to reciprocal single hooks in those colours on sloping sides.

Bands two and four have red ground with foliate meander.

Band three has white ground with floral meander.
