Object history | According to Rodney Searight: - `Bt Holder, June 1970, £7'. |
Historical context | Reproduced in `Punch' 9 December 1876, p.253. Lord Goschen, representing British interests, and M. Joubert, French, visited Egypt in 1876 to negotiate with the Khedive more satisfactory arrangements to protect the European creditors. The effect appears to have been minimal. For further information on the events satirised by Tenniel, see Searight Archive. |
