Inscribed on the back of the former frame with title and on board of which the present Earl of Westmorland, then Lord Burghesh, was serving as Assistant Adjutant General attached to the Expedition which had sailed from Sicily to Alexandria under General Frazer and being ordered to report the result. Apethorpe. August 23rd 1851. (`Apethorpe' refers to Apethorpe Hall, the home of the Earl of Westmorland mentioned.)

Historical context
