Object history
According to Rodney Searight: - `Bt.fr. Abbott & Holder. Dec.1966 £3'.
Historical context
This is a copy of an anonymous popular lithograph, part of a series, published by Pinot & Sagaire of Epinal, Vosges, 1870-1872. It shows a scene from the Franco-Prussian War, the Battle of Reichshofen [or Reichshoffen, or Worth or Froeschwiller], fought on 6th August 1870. Sohm has carefully copied the caption [complete with errors] as well as the image. `Turcos' were actually Algerian recruits who served as riflemen in the French Army, with special uniforms.
A copy of the print is in the Musée national des Arts et Traditions Populaires, Paris; museum number 53.86.1104 C
