Historical context note

Also originally attached to the frame was part of an exhibition catalogue of Grundy & Smith, Manchester (no date), including this watercolour as no.712, price £90. Cf. an oil version (61 x 90 cm.), The Halt of the Caravan, signed and dated 1885, with the Mathaf Gallery, London, 1984. See C. Juler, Les Orientalistes De L'École Italienne, Paris, 1987, p.246.
