This wine pot is shaped like the Chinese character shou (long life). Because yellow is the predominant colour a French art historian gave it the name 'famille jaune' (yellow family). The potter added a figure painted in blue to the design, making the object a rare example of two decorative techniques.

Bequeathed by Mr. George Salting, accessioned in 1910. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
