Object history | London, Stoner & Evans, 1930. From the Florence Clements Collection and the R.K. Price Collection. The figure probably represents King George II directing his troops at the Battle of Dettingen fought on the 27th June 1743, when the combined English and Austrians defeated the French army under the Duc de Noailles. It was in memory of this victory that Handel composed his Dettingen Te Deum. |
